Chejeji FM’s Primary Colour

When you think of the word Chejeji, which means “Light” in Lunda, what would the first colour be that comes to mind? Ours was yellow, so we chose the primary colour for both the website and the radio station building to be yellow. Since light always portrays energy and we wanted the station to have an energetic and happy vibe; colour theory says that vivid and high value colours give energy. So, our prime colour is not just any yellow, but bright “Golden Sun” yellow.

It certainly is a bright bold colour and when it was bought the person mixing the paint quizzed us on what it was for. He was very hesitant to even make this yellow in quantity because he couldn’t dream of putting it into a house – it was the wrong colour. When he heard that it was for a business he gave in though he was very hesitant as he called it “construction yellow” and said it was only to be used for signs and such.

Today was the day when the “yellow walls” became a reality; was it a wise choice? As soon as our first room was done (even with just the first coat) we knew we had made the right choice – the colour certainly gave energy and looked wonderful! WOW!

Sadly we’ll only be able to do 5 rooms in the house because the lobby and the hall way don’t have primer on them due to a bad bucket of primer which needs to be returned 11 hours drive away for a replacement which will have to wait until there is a trip that direction. However, it will be wonderful to get that much of the house painted in the primary colour along with the accent wall – but more on that later…
