What a change!!! Walking into the building now things are really different as all the interior walls are plastered, and most of the rooms are ready for the concrete floor. We are thankful to the Lord that things are slowly taking shape even with shortages of cement and building materials in Ikelenge plus adverse weather.
The first day of plastering outside, Ikelenge received our first hail storm of the year and wow was it a storm! It set us back a bit on the plastering, but more importantly it damaged many of the plants; it was even painful to go out in the storm to rescue things from it’s fury! One of the builder’s comments was “there goes all the relish in our fields!” as he watched the hail pelt down, shredding the tender leaves and covering the ground with frozen stones. After the storm the kids excitedly ran about trying to find the biggest hail stone and had fun playing with and eating them oblivious to the damage the hail had caused.
Since that first day of plastering, things have moved steadily and we are thankful that the rains have not hindered our progress since. The challenge of late has been cement as Ikelenge District has been out of cement for close to 2 weeks. Thankfully a truck came today, so we went early to stock up as we knew that it would disappear very soon due to the shortage; and so the plastering continues…
