A tall order!

As we continue painting bit by bit on the inside of the building, some painters have been given a tall order – paint the outside of the building with primer. Though the building itself is not too much taller than other buildings of similar standard, the roof design is not standard for the houses around. Most houses around have hip roofs as they are called, where the roof comes down from the point on all sides of the building so that the walls are all not very tall. However, because of the need for access to certain parts of the ceiling it was necessary to design this building with two gables.

Gabled roofs are also common, but are normally found on church buildings around here and they present a challenge because the two gables are tall, so doing anything to the gables is difficult. Painting a gable is a tall order and certainly needs people who are not afraid of heights! However, with the right tools and proper scaffolding it is not too much of a challenge.

It is amazing how the proper tools make a job easy! Sturdy scaffolding, extendable paint roller handles and other similar things made this daunting task seem more manageable, so the youth set to work. Painting, especially with oil based outdoor paints, is a challenging job but a valuable skill to master.

And so the outside of the building is now starting to change after a long period of looking the same while we worked on the inside. We shall see how we get along.
