Priming is an interesting word and can mean a lot of things. It simply means getting something ready. You can prime a pump with water, an engine with fuel, a face with “foundation”, and a wall with primer paint which is what we are now doing.
After brushing off all the walls, and fixing as many of the minor blemishes that we could find we finally started our first wall of painting. Our first day we didn’t get too much done as we were working on the setup and how to proceed through each room. I’m working with a few youth who know a bit about painting which is helpful, but I’m also teaching them a few tips that I’ve picked up over the years and some different techniques both with the paint brush and the roller.
The primer is a nice Dulux primer from Micmar and so it is going on nice and thick compared to the stuff that can be bought locally. I even had someone come in and ask if we were on our 3rd coat whereas we had only done one! This will make such a difference when it comes to bringing out the richness of the colour of the top coats which we have chosen so I’m very pleased about that.
So, for the next week or so I’ll be splattered with paint, though I am very thankful that we are doing the inside with latex rather than oil paint – oil paint is so much more messy!
